It happens every year – winter arrives and your daily wardrobe choices will inevitably include a trusted set of winter woolies. But don’t let necessity get in the way of keeping things stylish. Ireland boasts some fantastic knitwear brands, and if you’re willing to pay a little more for a premium, handmade product, we bet you’ll look forward to grabbing that same scarf, hat or wrap from the wardrobe.
Having been based in Dublin since 1936, it’s safe to say Cleo is a much-loved brand for Irish knitwear. Their shop on Kildare Street may be small, but it’s stuffed full of beautiful, unique designs. Our favourite for the season ahead is the Cable Crossover Wrap. Perfect for layering over shirts and tops, but slim enough to sit comfortably under a winter coat.
Fisherman Out Of Ireland
A team of just 22 people is all that Fisherman Out Of Ireland needs to create modern knitwear collections, in their workshop in Donegal. Expect earthy palettes of cream, greens and grey from this Irish brand, established in 1991. We particularly love their more unusual designs listed as part of their 2015 collection. These Handwarmers double up as a stylish cuff – and available in twelve colours, your only tough decision will be what shade to go for!
The now infamous mill of Wicklow has always had an exciting design approach to weaving. The result is a vibrant collection of knitwear – any of which are sure to brighten up the dull days of wintery weather. Avoca two-tone green Gracie Stole uses a subtle herringbone pattern, to beautifully combine the two bright shades. The perfect dash of colour to ward of any chills!
