“If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands” is still ringing in our head as we leave the Monday morning Jump-In Tots class. Having spent the last 75 minutes watching babies and toddlers dance, sing along and jump to rhythmic tunes we leave with smiles all around, fully energized and ready for the week ahead.

Jump-In Tots is an interactive parent and toddler class with music, movement, engaging props, toys and much more. It is suitable for babies from 4 months until 4 years, and is run by the talented and energetic Kathleen Carroll. Kathleen leads the class with endless enthusiasm and passion following a standardized routine, and making weekly adjustments to keep the regulars entertained.

Should you arrive to Jump-In Tots a little bit ahead of schedule, you will find a room full of toys that your little one is welcome to play with while everyone else arrives. To encourage good manners and obedience, a tidy up song is played encouraging children to clear the toys away. Once that’s done, it is time for the real fun!

Children warm up to well known nursery rhymes, reaching high and low to stretch their legs and arms. Beautiful props are given out to encourage coordination and keep everyone entertained. These can be anything from painted wooden shakers, to colorful hand clappers, to tiny bouncy balls aka Incy Wincy Spider.

Normally a song would have a ‘dance routine’ (standardised moves), however do not worry it is nothing too challenging and in case your little one wonders off to explore the neighbor’s changing bag no one minds anyway. There is a break giving children an opportunity to catch their breath and play freely with other children; adults are kindly offered tea and coffee with biscuits and rice cakes. This lovely touch provides a great opportunity to socialise and make friends, which is especially important if you are new to the area or this is your first child.

At Jump-In Tots there is  time for parachute fun, a story, bubbles and stamps. Kathleen really goes out of her way to maintain the attention of a very demanding crowed. If your little one is a ball of energy with endless curiosity and loves music and movement, then we cannot recommend this class enough.
