Malahide Castle is set on 250 acres of parkland along the beautiful north Dublin coast. Today the castle, with a story dating back to the 12th century, offers visitors a chance to explore the living quarters and the surrounding gardens. Nanny Village has been very lucky with the weather during her outings to the Malahide Castle, we’ve always arrived in high spirits and most importantly left exhausted but exhilarated after a fantastic day out. At the risk of sounding cliché, Malahide Castle has something to offer for everyone in your family.

The youngest of visitors will enjoy the spacious, adventurous playground that is equipped with all of the toddlers’ favourites including a sandpit with diggers, swings and a slide. Picnic tables are conveniently scattered around the play area so parents can relax while watching the little one’s play. For the older children there is a special climbing frame and extra sets of swings.

The demesne has plenty of public sporting amenities including a rugby field, a cricket pitch, tennis and basketball courts and the Sports Pavilion with a 9 and 18-hole pitch-and-putt course. If you are feeling particularly active why not join a cycling tour? For history lovers there is an opportunity to explore the ruins of the Malahide Abbey or the 18th century Bell Tower. When you are ready for a break pop into the Avoca Café to sample delicious locally and seasonally inspired dishes, or pick a souvenir from the Avoca store.

If you are serious about learning more about the castle and its history then guided tour of the property is a must. The tours are run daily and are offered in a variety of languages so you can always impress your overseas visitors.(link) After the tour explore the Talbot Botanic Gardens, created by the last master of the property in the middle of the 20th century. Here you will find seven glasshouses with tender species of flowers and plants including a fine collection of flora from Australia and Chile. Relax and enjoy the atmosphere of tranquility and peace.

There is always something new and exciting happening at this history venue. This may be a yoga weekend, a mums and babies dance class or a theater production- for further details check What’s On. To stay on top of what’s happening sign up for Malahide Castle newsletter. However, we urge you not to wait for a particular event to visit the caste, this historic venue and grounds are a fantastic experience on any day of the week. As an added benefit it is open all year around!
